My Royal High Tea

I'm so excited about my 25th birthday party that I will be celebrating in a week's time and all the lovely eats I will be baking. I've invited my nearest and dearest and I'm expecting it to be a blast!

What's on the menu as it stands is:
Red velvet cupcakes
Brownies
Chocolate cake
Blueberry Cheesecake
Blueberry muffins
Coconut ice (made with real coconut)
Lamingtons
Crunchies
Smoors
Chocolate éclairs
And of course an array of tea's, coffee and iced tea

I'm looking forward to the taste explosion!

Right now though I'm working on finding some vegan and gluten free versions of some of those lovely recipes so that everyone of my loved ones are catered for.

Turning Point no. 87656544545667

I really cannot tell you how many turning points regarding my love for fashion and me actually playing to those strengths I've reached in my life before. There are too many to count. But life is about 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 87656544545667th chances isn't it? So again I'm declaring this here turning point to engage more with my 1st love; fashion. This means reading more about it,  following it and most especially making it...

For the past two years I have not touched my sewing machine at all and I haven't properly read a full on fashion mag or followed any fashion blogger's. Of course work is to blame (even though I'm in the fashion industry, I know I know) but it has been rough. I am returning with a bang as I have 2 sewing projects coming up and I will be posting about them soon. Very soon so sit tight the Royal closet is opening up again ;)

Things my Mama didn't tell me about my hair...

I've been natural for about 6 years now (with a 1 month break in Dec 2009) but I only recently discovered how to take care of my natural hair in May 2013 when I happened upon a fellow South African blogger's post on how to style your TWA. I read about her whole natural hair journey over two days and I was astounded by the amount of knowledge I gained about black hair in that short space of time. Whilst trying to figure out the meanings of the terms she was using like "co-wash", "TWA", "ACV" etc I ran across more blogs and videos; a whole new world of natural bloggers and there began the healthy bit of my hair journey :)

All my life up until that point I'd held strong beliefs about hair care that led to me (and every other black girl and woman I knew) never growing hair past my shoulders and on top of that I only had a memory of a hairline but boy did I rock that nonetheless! LOL...

I'd always believed that:
1) Water is a black girl's hair's worst enemy
2) If you wash your hair more than once a month it will break
3) You need to suffer for beauty (heard this mantra everywhere,  my earliest memory is when I got my first set of braids at 6 and it hurt so much! )
4) If I use Dark and Lovely maybe one day my hair will look like the girl on the box

Needless to say none of those beliefs helped me one bit and all of them actually worked together to kill my hair

But Thank the good Lord I ran across Aisha's blog and did a 180 turn... my ends are still showing the hell I'd put them through but my roots are thriving so I am planning on doing another big chop to start over again very soon! Check it out in two weeks time after Ntseli's wedding ;)
